Bellevue Motorcyclist Severely Injured in I-90 Mercer Island Crash

The Bellevue motorcyclist crashed late Wednesday evening in the eastbound express lanes of Interstate 90 near the 77th Avenue SE off-ramp.

The Washington State Patrol are investigating a Wednesday evening crash on Mercer Island in the Interstate 90 express lanes that badly injured 52-year-old Darryl Lartch of Bellevue.

According to a press release, troopers said he was traveling eastbound in the I-90 reversible express lanes and was approaching the 77th Avenue Southeast off-ramp when the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a barrier at 9:50 p.m., ejecting the rider.

Trooper Tristan Cody said Lartch was wearing a helmet and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and the victim suffered life-threatening injuries including head trauma, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

The Seattle Times reported emergency personnel had initially blocked off all lanes late Wednesday night. Sgt. Dan Atchison of the Washington State Patrol said WSP troopers are still investigating whether another vehicle was involved.
