Police Blotter: Burglaries and Arrests Punctuate Crime Reports

The following information from Dec. 13 - Dec. 18 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Dec. 13

Diamond ring stolen from home.

A Mercer Island woman living on East Mercer Way contacted police after she discovered that a diamond ring had been taken from her master bedroom. The woman stated that contractors were recently working in the house to repair water damage.

Dec. 15

Man assaulted by houseguest

Police were dispatched to a residence on 88th Avenue Southeast after a man reported that his houseguest assaulted him. A small scratch was evident on the man’s neck. Police contacted the 25-year-old suspect, who admitted to pushing the victim. The suspect was arrested and transported to Issaquah Jail.

Woman’s car broken into, garage door opener stolen.

A Mercer Island woman contacted police after her vehicle was broken into while it was parked overnight outside her home on 77th Place Southeast. The victim stated that the vehicle had been locked and she found it unlocked in the morning. A garage door opener was stolen.

Dec. 16

Man arrested for DUI following traffic stop.

Police arrested a 47-year-old Sammamish Man for suspicion of drunk driving after he was pulled over for speeding in Interstate 90. When police contacted the driver he smelled of intoxicants and slurred his speech. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol and volunteered for field sobriety tests, which he failed. The driver refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the scene but later provided samples of .168 and .169. He was later released to his daughter.

Man bit by neighbor’s dog

A man living on East Mercer Way contacted police after a neighbor’s dog bit him while he was in his driveway. The man’s injuries were minor and he was treated by his doctor. Dog owner’s information was taken and a report was forwarded to King County Animal Control.

Dec. 17

Customer verbally assaults and threatens employee at local business.

Police were dispatched to a business on Southeast 36th Street after an employee claimed that she was verbally assaulted by a female customer. The employee also reported that the customer put her closed fist in the victim’s face and said, “I know where you work.” The customer then left the store.

Multi-car collision on Island Crest Way

Three cars were damaged following a multi-car collision on Island Crest Way. The driver of the first car in line, which was stopped for traffic, said she was struck in the rear by the second car. The driver of the second car said the third car struck him. The driver of the third car and her passenger said the second car came to a sudden stop and she could stop in time. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Dec. 18

Man caught with marijuana while parked in the middle of the road

Police arrested an 18-year-old Mercer Island man after they were dispatched to a report of a car sitting in the middle of Southeast 40th Street, facing traffic, with its lights on. When police arrived they found two males in the car. One of the males was in possession of a bag of marijuana. He was arrested and later released at the Mercer Island Police Station.
