Police Blotter: Diamond Wedding Ring Stolen in Lid Park Vehicle Prowl

Mercer Island Police are investigating the theft of a a diamond wedding ring and personal electronics stolen from a Jeep Cherokee in a July 30 vehicle prowl.

A 49-year-old Auburn man was visiting and left his vehicle parked on the 2200 block of 72nd Avenue SE at 6:30 p.m., and returned at 8:55 p.m. to discover the rear passenger-side window was broken and a number of belongings missing from inside. Among the missing items were a gold wedding ring with a half-karat diamond with black onyx on the sides, an Android tablet computer, a Braun shaver, a checkbook, wallet containing several credit cards and $30 in cash. The man also reported $58 in fraudulent transactions already made to one of his credit cards at the time the report was taken.

Youths Make Rooftop Escape From Underage Party Bust, Breaking Gutters
Two men from Redmond and Kirkland fled an underage party by climbing through an adjoining neighbors' properties on the 6600 block of SE 24th Street. A homeowner contacted police at 2:49 a.m. when he found the two suspects, ages 19 and 21, up on the roof of a detached building in their yard. The resident said he didn't know the men and they didn't have permission to be there. The following morning, victim noticed the gutter had been broken and damages were estimated at $400.

July 26

Drunk Teens Crash Into Retaining Wall, Car at Alpenland
Two teenagers were arrested for underage drinking and another for drunk driving following a hit-and-run accident that occurred at 7:13 p.m. in the parking lot in front of . A Jeep Wrangler driven by 19-year-old Seattle man and two passengers pulled into a parking stall in front of Alpenland and crashed into the retaining wall there. He then backed out of the stall and collided with a parked Toyota Corolla behind him. Witnesses confronted the youth, who got back in his Jeep and fled the scene. Police arrived one minute later and tracked down the suspects and arrested them. No injuries were reported.

July 29

DUI on Island Crest Way
Mercer Island Police arrested a 61-year-old resident driving a white Toyota Prius at 10:35 p.m. on suspicion of DUI after he was seen driving erratically on the 5200 through the 5400 block of Island Crest Way. The man was "exuding the odor of alcoholic beverage" and failed two field sobriety tests. He was later released from custody to his wife.

July 30

Good Samaritan Turns in BMX Bike, Helmet
A good Samaritan dropped off a child-sized dirt-bike and helmet to the Mercer Island Police Department just after 5 p.m. The bike and helmet had been abandoned in a local park for several days, according to the citizen.

Aug. 1

Prius Rear-Ended at SE 24th St. & West Mercer Way
A Toyota Prius was rear-ended at 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of West Mercer Way and SE 24th Street by a Toyota Corolla. The 62-year-old man driving the Prius was attempting to make a right turn at the stop sign when the Corolla filed to stop in time, causing minor damage to the Corolla. The 38-year-old woman driving the Corolla was cited for filing to stop at an intersection.
