Police Blotter: Drunk Driver Plunges 70 Feet Down Ravine

Mercer Island Police responded on the evening of June 13 to reports of a car driving off the road and plunging down a ravine along the 4600 block of East Mercer Way, and later arrested the driver on suspicion of drunk driving.

The green Volkswagen Passat was headed north at 10:02 p.m. when the 20-year-old driver lost control on the dry pavement and drove the car approximately 70 feet down a ravine. Police suspected he had been drinking beer prior to the accident and arrested him, but the resident refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. He was later released to the custody of his father and the vehicle was towed. The driver and a passenger were uninjured in the crash.

Marijuana-Smoking Seattle Teens Busted in Traffic Stop
Police arrested two 15-year-olds from Seattle for narcotics possession during a traffic stop on the 7900 block of North Mercer Way at 10:15 p.m. Patrol officers pulled over the silver Ford Escape and a search of the vehicle turned up a small tin with two half-smoked cigarettes and a small bag containing marijuana. The driver was released at the scene and the juveniles were later released to their parents.

Teenager Eludes Police Following Mother-Son Shouting Match
The mother of a 17-year-old teenage boy told police her son was "acting up and becoming verbal" and causing a disturbance at around 10:35 a.m. inside the family's residence on the 6200 block of East Mercer Way. The resident said she was concerned for her son's welfare and that he might harm himself. The teen didn't want to speak to the police and fled the home on-foot, eluding officers at the home.

Sanyo Cell Phone Found on Island Crest Way
A citizen turned found a Sanyo cell phone on the 4000 block of Island Crest Way at around noon and turned it in to police. The owner of the phone could not be located and the device was placed in property storage.
