Police Blotter: Multiple Arrests, A High School Student Beaten, and Plants Stolen from Local Home

The following information from May 1-6 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

May 1

Man passes fraudulant City check
Police were contacted after a man created a check using the City of Mercer Island's account number and passed that check at an O'Rielly's Auto Parts store in late April.

May 2

DUI arrest
Police arrested a 51-year-old Mercer Island man for suspicion of drunk driving after they spotted him passed out in a vehicle parked in the roadway The man volunteered for field sobriety tests, which he failed, and blew a .175 on the Breathalyzer. The man was released to his wife after processing.

Plants stolen from unoccupied house

A woman contacted police after she discovered that several plants had been dug up in the back yard of her vacant house on North Mercer Way.

Man bitten by dog

Police were dispatched to the Shorewood Apartments after a man was bitten in the thigh by a dog. The man was treated for his wounds and the dog's owner took responsibility for the dog's actions.

May 3

Court order violation
A woman living on 88th Avenue Southeast contacted police after her estranged husband called her three times on the telephone in violation of a protection order.

May 4

High School student beaten
Police were dispatched after a Mercer Island High School student was punched repeatedly in the face by another student. The victim was transported for medical care.

Possible child abuse

Police investigated a report of possible child abuse after a teacher at Islander Middle School was informed of ongoing abuse at home. Child Protective Services and the School Resource Officer were notified.

Malicious mischief

Police were contacted after a woman witnessed a man damage the passenger door panel of a man's Ford pickup truck.

Motor Vehicle Theft

A man living on East Shorewood Drive contacted police after his vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of his apartment building. The man said that the keys were in the vehicle and the vehicle was unlocked at the time. 

17-year-old arrested on warrant

Police arrested a 17-year-old Mercer Island boy on a misdemeanor warrant issued by Shoreline Police for driving with a suspended license and transfered the subject to the outside agency's custody. 

May 5

Man arrested on Seattle warrant
Police arrested a 50-year-old Mercer Island man on a Seattle misdemeanor warrant and transported him to Seattle.

May 6

Computer missing from truck
A Seattle man contacted police after he noticed that a messenger bag and a sports bag containing a laptop computer, a check book, and a wallet various credit cards and identification were missing from his truck.
