Police Blotter: Father/Son Fistfight Sends Youth to Hospital

Police Blotter (March 2-12): A father allegedly goads his son into a fight, and later required medical care.

Police arrested a local man March 7 after a confrontation with his son sent the 18-year-old youth to the hospital. 

Officers arrested the father, 47, for allegedly assaulting his son during an altercation at around 8 p.m.  the previous day inside a residence on the 7200 block of 91st Avenue SE. 

The fisticuffs between father and son began in earnest after the man began urging the youth to fight him. The father suffered a bloodied lip, but the son needed medical attention and was taken by his mother to Overlake Medical Center where, according to Mercer Island Police, he suffered scratches to his neck, a cracked rib and possible ruptured spleen.

The man has not been charged by the King County Prosecutor's office.

Police later cited the son for malicious mischief for denting the door of his father's Dodge Ram truck.

Wednesday, March 2

(Lost Property) A 78-year-old resident of a home on the 7600 block of SE 27th Street reported the loss of a black wallet purse holding credit cards and $25 cash inside at 1:42 p.m. after visiting the day prior. She couldn't remember if she had dropped the wallet or left it somewhere else. 

(Trespassing) A 54-year-old woman discovered a man she didn't know inside her garage at 8:10 p.m. on the 4700 block of 59th Avenue SE. Before she could confront him, the man left the property heading southeast. Police were unable to locate the suspect.

Thursday, March 3

(Vehicle Theft) Police located a stolen Subaru Impreza on the 7400 block of SE 24th Street after a local business owner contacted police 12: 15 p.m., calling the vehicle "suspicious". The keys were left in the ignition with a seasonal ski pass to Summit Ski Resort attached. Police later contacted the owner of the vehicle, a 27-year-old Snoqualmie Pass woman.

(Theft) A 21-year-old man reported a thief had stolen several items of motorcycle gear from his residence at 12:21 p.m. on the 7800 block of SE 71st Street. The items were taken from a bedroom which is currently being remodeled. Losses estimated at a value of $445 included a leather motorcycle jacket, gloves and two helmets. 

Friday, March 4

(Shoplifting) Staff at the contacted police at 4:32 p.m. after detaining a 12-year-old boy for shoplifting in the store. As officers arrived, the juvenile started acting aggressively against his mother and refused to return the items allegedly taken from the store. Police tackled the youth and placed him in handcuffs after he kicked and bit an officer. 

(Assault) A teenage boy was arrested at his home on the 5000 block of 84th Avenue S. after he allegedly struck his father and his 14-year-old brother during an argument. The boy, 16, was taken to Seattle and detained at the King County Juvenile Detention Center. 

Saturday, March 5

(Vehicle Accident) A 22-year-old Issaquah woman driving a red Jeep Compass north on Island Crest Way slammed on the brakes but couldn't prevent a collision at 3:27 p.m. with a Toyota Tacoma trying to turn left from SE 39th Street across traffic. Police cited the 79-year old Mountlake Terrace man for failing to yield and the woman was cited for expired tabs, which expired 4 weeks prior. No one was injured in the incident.

(Warrant Arrest) Police arrested a 48-year-old Seattle man stopped for speeding on the eastbound Interstate 90 onramp after a registration check revealed a suspended Oregon license and two misdemeanor arrest warrants. He was booked into the King County Jail on $12,000 bail. 

Sunday, March 6

(Assault) Police cited a 49-year-old patient of the for allegedly pushing a fellow 65-year-old patient in a hallway at 9:25 p.m. 

Monday, March 7

(Vehicle Prowl) A local resident reported unknown suspects broke into an Acura MDX parked on the 7400 block of SE 27th Street sometime between 6:45-7:30 p.m. The thief reportedly broke out the rear passenger-side window to enter the vehicle and removed several credit cards, computer equipment and two checks valued at $4,500.

Tuesday, March 8

(Burglary) A 37-year-old resident reported her home on the 8400 block of West Mercer Way had been burglarized at 1:30 p.m. She discovered the residence had been entered through a sliding glass door at the rear of the building, which was smashed. One or more of the suspects apparently cut themselves on the door as they entered, leaving a small amount of blood behind on the glass. Losses were estimated at $3,000.

(Theft) A man visiting a on SE 27th Street reported his iPhone was stolen from his table at around 1:35 p.m. The phone is valued at $700. No suspects were identified or evidence collected.

(Information) Police stopped two youths on the 3400 block of 77th Place SE at 7:40 p.m. after a passerby overheard them talking on a cellphone saying they were selling drugs and carrying a gun. Police used tasers to help detain the two suspects, 25 and 16 years old, for questioning and determined they were not carrying any weapons.

Wednesday, March 9

(Vehicle Accident) A 59-year-old woman driving a Lexus SUV was leaving a residence at around 4:12 p.m. and came to a stop at the intersection of East Mercer Way and Butterworth Road as a cyclist approached from the north. The woman allowed her vehicle to creep forward several feet into the intersection at the moment the cyclist was passing, allegedly causing an accident. The cyclist, 43, was ejected from his bike, causing injuries to his right ankle, right elbow and left knee. The woman was cited for failure to yield. 

Thursday, March 10

(Theft) Over $2,600 in cash and a $120 check was reported stolen from a microwave at 3:27 p.m. in a home on the 6200 block of East Mercer Way, according to a the 58-year-old female resident. The money was stolen sometime between March 7-10.

(Vehicle Accident) A Toyota Camry driving on SE 27th Street was struck by a Toyota SUV at 4:51 p.m. as the 23-year-old Everett woman used a turning lane to pass a stopped bus as she approached 80th Avenue SE. The Seattle man driving the SUV collided with the rear passenger side of the Camry, but no injuries were reported. The woman was cited for improper use of center turn lane.

Saturday, March 12

(Vehicle Collision) A woman attempting to make a u-turn in a private driveway at 11:30 p.m. on the 7600 block of West Mercer Way when her Toyota Rav4 slipped off the road and down a ravine, coming to a rest against a tree. Her SUV was damaged but no injuries were reported. 

(Vehicle Prowl) An unknown suspect broke into Chevrolet Tahoe parked in a driveway of a home on the 4100 block of 78th Avenue SE sometime between 1-6:15 p.m. The 60-year-old woman reported losses a wallet with $40 in cash, a dark green canvas bag filled with dog grooming supplies and a light brown purse.
