Police Blotter: Arrest in Roanoke Inn Brawl on Mercer Island

The following police blotter information from Sept. 27 - Oct. 2 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Mercer Island Police arrested a 51-year-old Hawaiian man Saturday-night (Sept. 29) for simple assault and battery following a barroom brawl with a local resident at the Roanoke Inn.

Police say the fight began with a verbal argument bewteen the Kailua-Kona, HI resident and a 44-year-old man at the bar at around 11:45 p.m., but the two men were seperated. A few minutes later, the Hawaiian man followed him into a restroom stall and began punching him in the face and head, and the bar called 911.

The man fled the Roanoke Tavern but was later found at a nearby gas station and arrested at 2 a.m. 

He was processed and booked at the Issaquah Jail. 

Sept. 27

Police Can't Find Owner of Lost Wallet
A 29-year-old resident found a brown leather wallet and contents on the 2800 block of 77th Ave. SE when he left work at 6 p.m. and turned it over to police. A records check of the license and a Bank of America debit card inside yielded no phone number contact for the wallet owner, so it was placed in MIPD safekeeping.

Laptop Computer Stolen From Town Center Business
A backpack containing a black ACER laptop computer was stolen from a business on the 7600 block of SE 27th Street. A 21-year-old employee said the bag was stolen sometime between 2-3:30 p.m. and police identified a 23-year-old suspect.

Wakeboard Found Floating in Lake Washington
Mercer Island Marine Patrol found a red Wiley Super-pro wakeboard floating abandoned in Lake Washington just south of the Interstate 90 floating Bridge.

Sept. 28

Dog Attacks Woman Near Island Crest Park
A dog attacked a 51-year-old woman on the 5800 block of 84th Avenue SE at 8:45 a.m. No injuries or broken skin was reported in the incident.

iPod Stolen from Car
The 57-year-old resident of a home on the 8900 block of East Mercer Way reported his iPod, valued at $100, was stolen from his car sometime between Aug. 31 and Sept. 28.

Prowlers in Mercer Firs Steal ID from Car
A Redmond woman reported her Chevrolet HHR was broken into while it was parked on the 9000 block of SE 60th Street and her ID, registration and insurance card were stolen between 6:15-11:30 p.m.

Sept. 29

Son Misses Curfew, Father Calls Police
A 16-year-old Mercer Island High School student was declared a runaway by his father after he failed to return home by midnight after a Friday night football game at Islanders Stadium.

Four Tires Puntured on 70th Ave. SE
Unknown vandals popped four Michelin tires of a parked Volkswagen Passat overnight as it was parked in front of its owner's house on the 2200 block of SE 70th Avenue SE. The estimated cost of damages was estimated at $400.

Sept. 30

Three Injured in Head-On Crash on North Mercer Way
A Shorewood Heights resident driving a Ford Fusion westbound on the 9000 block of North Mercer Way attempted to make a left turn onto Shorewood Drive when she crashed head-on into oncoming Honda CRV at 4:43 p.m. The 37-year-old woman said she was blinded by the sun as she turned the corner and injured her wrist, and was cited for failure to yield. The Honda driver, 70, and an 80 year-old passenger also suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Thieving Son Threatens to Kill Mother
A 30-year-old resident reportedly harassed his 57-year-old mother after calling her at her residence on the 4400 block of East Mercer Way and telling her that he would burn her house down. The son threatened his mother because he believed she had reported his theft of a checkbook and jewelry from her earlier in September.

Cyclist Uses the John, Thieves Swipe Bike
Thieves took a red Trek Madone 6.5 Dura Ace bicycle leaning against a porta-potty at the Lid Park parking lot on West Mercer Way at 3:30 p.m. A 37-year-old Renton man said he was only inside for 2 minutes and when he came out, the bicycle was gone.

Oct. 1

Thief Nabs $800 from Islander Pub Bartender's Purse
A thief entered the Islander Pub back office through a back door at 3:29 p.m. and made off with a red Coach waller containing $800, a driver's license and several social security ID cards. The suspect is described as a black male, 30-40 years old, 6', slender build and wearing a Seahawks jersey and baggy jeans. He was last seen fleeing west from the pub.

Laptop Stolen From North-end QFC Site
A Dell laptop computer was stolen from a worksite office trailer at the North-end QFC at 10:42 p.m. A suspect was visible but not identifiable in security camera footage.

Oct. 2

Women's Bike, AMEX Card Found
A city hall employee reported a woman's Schwinn bicycle was found outside City Hall and had been left there since Tuesday. Later that morning on the 3500 block of Island Crest Way, a passerby noticed an American Express card on the ground and turned it in to police.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
