Police Blotter: Jewelry Worth $22,000 Stolen From East Mercer Way Home

The following information from June 4-10 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The resident of a home on the 4600 block of East Mercer Way contacted police on June 8 to report four rings valued at approximately $22,000 were stolen from her home.

The 46-year-old woman said she last saw the missing rings on May 26 after she placed them in a basket next to the kitchen sink. The missing rings included an Etoile Bang, a Chanel diamond band and a diamond solitaire β€” all made of platinum β€” and a trinity gold diamond ring. The same day there was a party at the residence where 22 people attended, mostly family with their friends. Police report no suspects.

Car Prowlers Take $10,000 in Checks From Unlocked Vehicle
The owner of a BMW 328ci reported his car was prowled sometime overnight while parked unlocked at his residence on the 8500 block of SE 61st Street. Two checks valued at over $10,000 and his driver's license were missing from inside.

Hit-and-Run near Ellis Pond
A Bellevue woman working at a private office on the 4500 block of 90th Ave. SE near reported her Honda Civic had been broken into sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Police investigation indicated that another vehicle with a ladder or gardening equipment along the back struck the rear window of her car, breaking it.

Man Re-Arrested at King County Jail on MI Warrant
A 48-year-old Seattle man was transferred to police custody at the King County Jail on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was transported to the Issaquah Jail and booked at 5:30 p.m.

Caretaker steals valuables from South-end Home
The daughter of an elderly resident of a home on the 8200 block of Avalon Drive reported the man's caretaker had stolen several valuables on May 17. A malachite jade carving, pearl earrings, a scrimshaw container, and a hand-held Olympus audio recorder were among the items believed stolen.

Credit Card Fraud Hits Fernbrook Drive Homeowner
American Express contacted a resident of the 4300 block of Fernbrook Drive to alert him to fraudulent charges being made to his account. The 52-year-old man promptly discovered another the security of another credit account was compromised and someone had forged two credit card checks for less than $1,500 at Walgreens and another retail location in Bothell.

Traffic Stop Yields Arrest in Town Center
A 23-year-old Bellevue man driving a silver Honda Civic was stopped on the 7800 block of SE 27th Street for a licensing violation and was later arrested for a $1,000 misdemeanor warrant issued in Redmond at 11:55 a.m. He was later transferred to Redmond PD custody.

June 6

No Injuries in Island Crest Way Crash
A 38-year-old woman driving a Toyota Landcruiser SUV with a passenger on SE 47th Street attempted to turn onto southbound Island Crest Way when her vehicle was hit by a northbound Toyota Highlander SUV with two passengers at 4:11 p.m. The woman admitted fault and was cited for failure to yield at an intersection. No one was injured in the accident.

June 7

MIHS Student Reports iPhone Stolen
A 15-year-old student's white iPhone4 with a blue and black case was stolen from high school property at around noon. The girl left her phone unattended and contacted police a few hours later after it was stolen. The phone, valued at $500, was tracked to downtown Seattle and Tukwila, but police were unable to locate it.

Abandoned Boat Found at Slater Park
A 65-year-old resident visiting at 5:46 p.m. discovered an abandoned boat had washed up near the water's edge, adrift and stuck on a drainage pipe. The vessel was later impounded by assisting agencies.

June 8

Butterworth Road Construction Site Burglarized
Approximately $3,000-worth of construction tools were discovered missing at 7 a.m. from a building site on the 5200 block of Butterworth Road. Items stolen from the unsecured include a various drills, a gas-powered chainsaw and a jackhammer. A person of interest was identified by police.

Cell-Phone Talking Driver Arrested for Outstanding Violations
A 21-year-old Seatac man driving a Honda Accord on the 2800 block of Island Crest Way was arrested for driving on a suspended license. He was initially pulled over for a citation for using his cell phone while driving at 7: 19 p.m. Additional checks confirmed his suspended license and failure to appear several times in court.

Vodka Stolen From Albertsons
A patrol officer discovered two liquor security caps in the roadway of the 7600 block of North Mercer Way. later confirmed the theft of two bottles of Lox Vodka at approximately 9:30 p.m.

June 9

Duo Snatch Absolut Vodka From Albertsons
A woman stole four bottles of flavored Absolut vodka, valued at $85 total, from and at around 5:25 p.m. and attempted to leave the store when she was confronted by an employee. The woman left the store and left in a yellow Hummer. The store employee was able to provide a license plate number to police.

June 10

Scofflaw Arrested in Bellevue
Bellevue Police arrested a 25-year-old resident wanted on misdemeanor warrants. He was transported and booked into the Issaquah Jail at 12:32 a.m.
