Police Blotter: Man Tries to rob Woman, a Pair of DUI Arrests, and a Drunk Teen is Found Lying in Road

The following information from Dec. 2 - Dec. 6 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Dec 2.

Man attempts to rob woman, is later caught on bus

A man attempted to rob a woman of her phone and wallet on SE 44th St. when the woman refused to give him her items the man said that he had a gun and threatened to shoot her. The woman kicked the man and fled the scene. The man was later caught on a bus and positively identified by the woman. He was booked into King County Jail.

Dec. 3

Man arrested for DUI after speeding

Police arrested a 48-year-old Mercer Island man for suspicion of drunk driving after he was pulled over for speeding (39 mph in a 25 mph zone). When police contacted the driver they smelled a strong odor of intoxicants. The driver admitted to drinking and volunteered for field sobriety tests. The driver failed the tests and blew a .117 on the Breathalyzer. The driver was arrested and his vehicle was impounded.

Dec. 4

Approximately $300 in items stolen from QFC

Police were dispatched to the QFC on SE 68th St. after a woman reportedly stolen several grocery items valued at approximately $300 and left in a gray Honda Accord. Video surveillance evidence was provided to police on the next day.

Car broken into, items stolen

A Bellevue couple contacted police after their vehicle was broken into on 84th Ave. SE. A purse, cell phone, portable GPS unit, house keys and various credit and identification cards were stolen.

Drunk juvenile male found lying in street

A woman living on 86th Ave. SE contacted police after she found a young male lying in the street in front of her home. When police arrived they found a heavily intoxicated 17-year-old male. The juvenile provided a breath sample of .124. He was treated by the Mercer Island Fire Department and released to his father.

Man arrested for DUI following traffic stop

Police arrested a 27-year-old Kirkland man for suspicion of drunk driving after he was pulled over for an expired registration. The driver failed field sobriety tests and blew a .180/.177 on the Breathalyzer. The driver had also tampered with a breath interlock device on his vehicle in order to start it.

Dec. 5

Purse stolen from inside residence

A woman living on 78th Ave. SE contacted police after she discovered that her purse had been stolen from inside her residence. There were no signs of forced entry and nothing else was missing.

Dec. 6

Vehicle vandalized by unknown subjects

A Port Orchard man contacted police after he discovered that his vehicle had been vandalized sometime during the night on 81st Place SE. The vehicle’s front and rear driver’s side doors had deep scratches into the metal. The man was unable to provide any suspect information.

Mail stolen from mailbox

A woman living on Shoreclub Drive contacted police after three thank you cards were stolen out of her mailbox. She had placed the cards in the box the night before.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
