Police Blotter: Marine Patrol Seizes Motorboat on Lake Washington for Safety Violations

Mercer Island Marine Patrol officers seized a red Kawasaki motorboat June 12 in the East Channel of Lake Washington after finding the owner failed to comply with municipal code for safely operating personal watercraft. 

An onboard inspection of the boat at around 1:30 p.m. yielded two municipal code violations. The owner of the boat, a 39-year-old Kirkland man, was cited for failing to wear an engine cutoff switch lanyard and had no fire extinguisher on board. Officers found a small piece of plastic connected to a zip-tie and a rubber band was used for this purpose, and was taken for evidence. The boat was towed to the where the owner was cited and released.

Brick-Tossing Bandit Burglarizes 70th Avenue SE Home

A suspected burglar reportedly swiped an iPad computer resting on a tabletop from a home on the 2400 block of 70th Avenue SE while the family was away for several hours in the evening. The known suspect allegedly smashed the a rear glass door of a home with a brick to get inside and took the computer sometime between 6:10 - 9 p.m. A neighbor reported seeing the suspect in the area at the time of the incident.

"John Doe" Burglar Cracks Safe on West Mercer Way

A residential burglar broke into a safe and took several computers from a home on the 7400 block of West Mercer Way at around 12:15 p.m. The known suspect forced open a sliding glass door and broke into a fire safe in the residence, removing jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash. He also took two laptop computers located in different parts of the home. The owners of the home were able to give a encryption of the suspected burglar, described as an Asian-Pacific Islander male, no age given.

Speedy Soldier Arrested for Suspended License 

A Ft. Lewis soldier driving a black Mazda MX-6 was pulled over for speeding on the 4700 block of West Mercer Way at 4:26 p.m. But instead of issuing a speeding ticket, the 22-year-old man was arrested after police learned his license was suspended. He was taken into custody, processed at the , and later released.

Crafty Cat Burglar Cops to Mercerwood Heist

Bellevue Police arrested a man June 10 who admitted to burglarizing a home on the 9700 block of Mercerwood Drive on May 19 or May 20. Police contacted the victims, a 57-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, who said they noticed some items were missing but didn't realize they had been burglarized. The stolen itmes include a Nintendo Wii game console, several pieces of jewelry, "adult entertainment" DVDs, and an iPhone power recharging cord.

Drunk Bellevue Driver Crashes Head-on Into Local Teen

A 42-year-old Bellevue woman was arrested for DUI after crashing her Volvo S60 into another vehicle at the intersection of SE 40th Street and 88th Ave near the entrance to . SE at 11:20 p.m. The victim, a local 18-year old woman driving a Toyota Scion, was turning north onto 88th Ave. SE when the Volvo suddenly pulled out of 88th Ave. SE, causing a head-on collision. The driver and a 21-year-old male passenger in the Toyota said the woman appeared drunk. After police interviewed both drivers, officers determined the Volvo failed to yield and the driver was arrested for DUI. No injuries were reported.

Passed-Out Teen Discovered on Side of 78th Ave SE

Police discovered a drunk 17-year-old resident lying on the ground at 2:36 a.m. near 78th Avenue SE on the 3700 block. His Silver Honda Civic was located nearby. The teen admitted to drinking but refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, and was cited for underage drinking. His father was called and arrived soon after to take the youth home.
