Police Blotter: Mercerwood Car Prowlers Take Valuables Worth $3,000

The following information from Oct. 3-7 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Mercer Island Police say unknown suspects prowled a Hummer H1 truck and a Toyota Camry overnight on Oct. 6 while they were parked in front of a residence on the 4100 block of 96th Avenue SE.

The 32-year-old man who owned the vehicles found the passenger-side front window of the Toyota smashed and a laptop computer, briefcase, drill, gift certificates, clothing and rent checks issued to him were stolen from inside. He said he had last checked on his vehicles at 8 p.m. and discovered the damage shortly after 7:30 a.m. and called police.

Police estimated the total value of items stolen was $3,255 and damage to his Toyota at $500.

Oct. 3

Homeowners Report $7,200 Losses in Another Mercer Island Estates Burglary

Burglars entered a home through an open garage window and took $7,200-worth of valuables from a home on the 8500 block of SE 73rd St. sometime between 8 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. The 51-year-old homeowner and his 18-year-old daughter said cash, electronics and jewelry — including an 18-karat gold wedding ring with a three-diamond setting — were stolen from the home. Police report no suspects or witnesses to the burglary. 

Oct. 5

Two Bicycles Stolen from Mercer Firs Home

The resident of a home on the 6100 block of 93rd Ave. SE reported two bicycles stolen from their driveway overnight Sept. 28-29. One bicycle was found on the 6800 block of East Mercer Way, but the second, a Trek, remains missing.

Elderly Woman Falls Near Home in Town Center, Rushed to Hospital
An 89-year-old resident of the Island House retirement community fell at the corner of SE 30th St. and 80th Ave. SE at 12:30 p.m., causing head injuries. Mercer Island Fire Department EMTs rushed the woman to Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue.

St. Monica Church Hit With Graffiti
St. Monica Cathloic Church discovered spray-painted graffiti on a wooden fence running along the south-side of church property along SE 44th Street on Sept. 29. The graffiti appears to the name "TROB" or "RROB", say police. St. Monica Church said the fence was last checked on August 31.

Man Reports Credit Card Fraud
A 61-year-old resident of a home on the 8400 block of SE 69th Pl. reported that someone had made unauthorized charges on his credit card, of approximately $1,000 at businesses in the South King County area. A Tukwila woman was questioned but is not identified as a suspect in the case.

Drunk Driver Crashes Car on Gallagher Hill Road, Arrested
Police arrested a 45-year-old Renton man after he drove his Subaru Legacy off the road on the 3700 block of Gallagher Hill Road near city Open Space property at 4:08 p.m. Police determined the man had been drinking and placed him under arrest and transported him to Overlake Hospital for a physical examiniation. The man refused a DUI blood test.

Teenager Arrested on Warrant at Mercer Island Shell
Police arrested a 17-year-old resident on a misdemeanor warrant at the Mercer Island Shell gas station. He was later released at the Mercer Island Police Station after the King County Juvenile Court had been notified.

Oct. 6

Everett Man Arrested on MI Warrant in Shoreline
Shoreline Police arrested a 28-year-old Everett man wanted on a Mercer Island warrant and was booked into the King County Jail.

Drunk Seattle Man Arrested for DUI on ICW
Police arrested a 55-year-old man on the 2700 block of Island Crest Way after he was stopped for driving his white KIA Sorrento without a muffler. The man failed several field-sobriety tests and a registration check indicated he had an outstanding warrant, and a police search revealed receipts from a downtown Seattle nightclub. A breathalyzer test later indicated his blood-alcohol level was .147. He was later booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Seniors Involved in Town Center Crash
The 69-year-old driver of a Mitsubishi Galant driving north on 77th Ave. SE was stuck by another motorist driving a Lexus 6X460 east on SE 29th St. No injuries were reported, but the 73-year-old Lexus driver was cited for failure to stop. 

License Plate Stolen from East Seattle Van
The owner of a Ford Windstar van parked on the 6600 block of SE 24th St. reported the rear license plate was stolen sometime between 5 p.m. Oct. 5 and noon Oct. 6.

Stolen Mail found in Bushes
A 71-year-old woman walking along the 9600 block of Mercerwood Drive reported six pieces of mail addressed to a Seattle resident and turned them over to police.

Oct. 7

Drugged-Out Teen Arrested at North-end QFC
Police arrested a 17-year-old resident at 12:06 a.m. after they found him passed out in a black Audi A4 with its headlights on in the parking lot of the North-end QFC. Police spotted drug paraprenalia from outside the vehicle and located canisters of marijuana and a pipe inside. He was later released to his father at the MIPD station.

Diabetic Man Assualts Woman, Passes Out
A 58-year-old man was arguing with a Redmond woman at 12:12 a.m. inside his home on the 6900 block of 96th Ave. SE when the argument turned physical and the man struck the woman in the back with an open hand. The 48-year-old woman was uninjured but the man had passed out due to a diabetic episode and was later taken to Overlake Hospital by MIFD EMTs.

Marine Patrol Recovers Aluminium Boat on Renton Shoreline
Police recovered a 12-foot aluminum boat that had washed up on shore in Renton on Oct. 1. The Sears-brand vessel had no identifying markings on it wasn it was placed into police found property.
