Mercer Island Police Blotter: Woman Flees in Stolen Car in First Hill Burglary

The following information from Aug. 23-29 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

First Hill homeowners scared off a burglar in their garage Aug. 29 but were able to give police a good description of the suspect and the car she fled in.

The middle-aged couple reported a burglar was inside the open garage connected to their house on the 2900 block of 74th Avenue SE at 10:30 a.m. They confronted the suspect — described by police as an Asian woman — who immediately left the property in a stolen blue Subaru Legacy.

After an extensive check, the homeowners reported nothing stolen from the premises.

Aug. 24

Father-Son Fisticuffs Ends With Youth in Jail

A 21-year old son assaulted his father at the elder man's home on the 7600 block of West Mercer Way at 11:28 a.m. Police found both men were injured in the scuffle with minor injuries and arrested the younger man and booked him into the Issaquah Jail.

Aug. 25

Mailbox Crushed Twice in Four Days

A resident of a home on the 6800 block of 93rd Avenue SE reported his mailbox was vandalized for the second time in four days. He saw two teens driving a minivan sped away from his home shortly after hearing a loud noise and estimated the damage at $50.

Aug. 26 

Pot-Smoking Teen Driver Arrested

Police stopped a local teen driving a Jeep on the 4000 block of Island Crest Way at 8 p.m. for a broken taillight and noticed the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The 17-year-old male refused to allow a search of the Jeep, so police arrested him, obtained search warrants and discovered a small amount of marijuana in a plastic bag.

Head-on Collision Causes Injuries on West Mercer Way

A 17-year-old teenager from Carnation was driving a Ford Mustang northbound at 9:05 p.m. on the 4200 block of West Mercer Way when he collided head-on with a Chevrolet Impala, causing minor injuries. The teen was later cited for driving in the wrong lane as he drove around the curve, and one of the victims of the crash — an Austin, TX man — suffered a broken ankle.

Aug. 27 

Noisy Teens Busted at 4 am for Underage Drinking

Police arrested a 19-year-old Bellevue teen for DUI on the 3000 block of 81st Place after neighbors called to complain about loud music blaring from his car at 4 a.m. Officers determined the youth was drunk and a subsequent search of his car revealed a small amount of marijuana inside. Two Mercer Island teens were also cited for underage drinking.

Aug. 28

Skate Park Graffiti

City parks staff reported an unknown individual spray-painted red graffiti at the the skate park occurred sometime between Aug. 24-28. Damages are estimated at $500. 

Illegal Crayfish Trap Removed From Lake Washington

Police removed a black crayfish "pot", 65 feet of line and a surface float from the East Channel of Lake Washington about half-a-mile south of I-90. The markings on the float were not consistent with permit requirements.

Aug. 29

Parking Space Fight at Luther Burbank

Two men, from Poulsbo and Tukwila, verbally threatened each other in the Luther Burbank Park parking lot at noon over a parking spot.

Curtain Rod-Wielding Attacker Arrested

Police arrested a 50-year-old resident at his home on the 7800 block of 71st Street for assault and battery after he struck his 20-year-old stepson on the foot with a curtain rod at 11: 57 p.m. He was booked at the Issaquah Jail.
