Police Blotter: No Citation for Driver After Pedestrian Struck Near First Hill Crosswalk

The following information from Nov. 22 - Dec. 2 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A local woman driving on First Hill the morning of Dec. 1 hit a pedestrian, causing injuries. The woman, driving a XC70 Volvo northbound SE 72nd Street, tried to turn right on 24th Ave. SE at around 10:05 a.m. and struck a pedestrian near a crosswalk at the stop sign.

The pedestrian, who only spoke Mandarin Chinese, later told through a translator that she noticed heavy traffic on SE 24th St. and entered the crosswalk, when the Volvo hit her. The driver disputed that claim, stating the woman had struck the side of her vehicle. Police were unable to determine who was at fault in the accident.

The woman was taken to Overlake Hospital by EMTs for a potential knee injury.
