Police Blotter: Police Investigate Burglary Related to Armed Robbery

The following information from July 25-Aug. 3 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A burglary that was discovered July 26 in the 7600 block of W. Mercer Way is likely tied to an armed robbery that same night.

Police were not sure if the burglary happened before or after the robbery, as it was not discovered until approximately 3 hours after the robbery was reported, but a gun was stolen from the home that was burglarized.  The vehicle used in the robbery was recovered at the burglary location, which was a stolen vehicle from Tukwila.

A Mercer Island residence on 76th Ave SE was burglarized. The kitchen door was pried open and items such as an iPod and diamond jewelry was stolen.

Bombed Mailbox

Mercer Island residents on the 6500 block of 61st Ave SE found their mailbox destroyed by a small explosive after having heard a loud noise the previous night.

Runaway Returned to Mom

A 17-year-old Tacoma runaway was turned over to her mother after the 22-year-old driver of the car she was in was stopped for arrested tabs. The driver was arrested on a Bellevue Police warrant.

Rolled Car in DUI Case

A 52-year-old Mercer Island resident was arrested for DUI after rolling her vehicle onto its roof in the 6400 block of E. Mercer Way. The driver was uninjured, and police reported her blood alcohol level was between .152 and .162.

Break-in at Home for Sale

A real estate agent found the back door of a house that was being staged for sale open with the center glass pane broken out.

July 30

Dance Studio Burglary

An employee of Definitive Dance Studio reported that its office had been gone through and about $6,000 in electronics and clothing was stolen.

Car Break-in at Groveland

A Houston family traveling to the airport reported their car was broken into while parked at Groveland Park, and a backpack and wallet were stolen.

July 31

DUI Suspect’s Car Impounded

A 23 year old Seattle man was arrested for driving while under the influence around the 2600 block of 84th Ave SE, and his car was impounded.

Aug. 1

Car Prowler Left Evidence

Two cars parked at a Mercer Island residence on 94th Ave. SE were prowled while the family was on vacation. The driver side window of one of the cars was broken, and evidence including a smoked cigarette butt and earbuds were found in the other vehicle.

Aug. 2

Mailbox Bombing

A Mercer Island resident reported that his mailbox on the 7800 block of SE 72nd St. was blown up. Police say the explosive appeared to have been a manufactured firework.

Vehicle Break-in, Purse Stolen

A Seattle resident reported someone smashed the driver side window of her Toyota Prius and stole her purse. The incident happened on the 7900 block of Island Crest Way.

Aug. 3

Driver Stopped in Roadway

A 44-year-old Seattle woman was arrested for DUI after she was found in her vehicle stopped in the southbound lane of Island crest Way on the 3900 block.

Wallet Stolen from Car

A man reported his wallet was stolen from his vehicle while he was working as a flagger on E. Mercer Way.

Several Car Prowling Incidents

There were reports of vehicle prowling, including two unlocked vehicles on the 3800 block of 76th Ave. SE, one on the 3800 block of 82nd Ave. SE, and two on the 3800 block of Greenbrier Lane. Items stolen included iPod and cell phone chargers.
