Police Blotter: Prowlers Return, Hit Three Cars on East Mercer Way

The following information from June 13-19 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police have no leads in an investigation into three car break-ins off of East Mercer Way in the early-morning hours of June 16.

An Edmonds woman visiting a home on the 6800 block of East Mercer Way reported her Mazda 323 had the rear window and front passenger window smashed and a box of women's clothes and hiking boots were taken from inside.

On the next block, a Land Rover LR3 parked at a home on the 9500 block of SE 69th Street was broken into sometime between 10:30 p.m. - 8:30 a.m. The drivers-side window was smashed and a GPS satellite navigation device, an iPod with a pink cover and pair of prescription Ray-Ban sunglasses were stolen out of the center console. The 46 year old resident estimated the lost valuables were worth approximately $1,050.

Further north on the 4500 block of Ferncroft Road, the owner of a Lexus RX330 reported the rear-side passenger window was smashed out and clothing, several Bibles, a purse and a checkbook were stolen off of the center seat.

Woman Seeks Hydrocodone in Attempted Prescription Drug Forgery

A 36-year-old Seattle woman was arrested at the pharmacy drive-thru after she tried to present a forged prescription for hydrocodone opiate pain killers. The woman tried to pick up a phoned-in a prescription from the pharmacy drive-thru using an assumed name at 9: 35 a.m. and handed the pharmacist a forged prescription form. The pharmacist grew suspicious and called the issuing clinic/doctor, who told him they have no patients under the name the subject provided and they had not phoned-in any prescriptions to the Walgreens. The woman was taken to the Mercer Island Police Department, interviewed and released.

June 15

Scofflaw Driver Loses Car in Busted Headlight Traffic Stop

Police gave a 42-year-old Federal Way man a lift back to his job site after impounding his truck and releasing him from arrest for driving on a suspended license. Officers initially stopped the purple Nissan Frontier for a driving in the dark with a burned-out headlight on 7600 block of 29th Street at 12:31 a.m. but a registration check revealed the suspended license and his failure to appear twice in court to explain why he was still driving.

Novice Driver Causes Accident on SE 40th Street

A 16-year-old resident driving an Acura SUV was cited for unsafe backing after she pulled out to make a left turn from 92nd Avenue onto SE 40th Street at 10:19 a.m.. She suddenly saw another vehicle approaching form the right, stopped, and put the car in reverse without noticing a Toyota Camry behind her. The Toyota, driven by a 20 year-old local woman with three teenage passengers, were unharmed in the accident. 

Police Bust Domestic Violence Suspect at Islander Pub

Assisting Bellevue police in a domestic violence case, local law enforcement arrested a 55-year-old Bellevue man at the at 10:07 p.m. He was placed into custody and taken to Bellevue and transferred to the Bellevue Police Department.

June 16

West Mercer Way Spinout Levels Utility Pole

A woman driving a Toyota Camry southbound on 2700 block of West Mercer Way veered off the west side of the roadway at 5:05 p.m. and hit a utility pole as she prepared to turn right. The car then spun around from the force of impact until stopping almost perpendicular to the lane of travel. The car had extensive damage to the front-end and to the rear tire. The 54-year-old woman was unhurt in the accident.

Lacrosse Stick-Wielding Thugs Vandalize Forest Landing

A resident of a home on the 4300 block of Forest Avenue reported 3 male teens with lacrosse sticks were vandalizing the street end park at 7:47 p.m. by breaking down the cinderblock wall. Police estimated approximately $200 in damages. 

Witness: Hit-and-Run Face Says a Thousand Words

Shoppers in the parking lot said a silver Jeep Cherokee backing out of a parking spot at 7: 50 p.m. and smacked into a parked Chevrolet pick-up truck with a 13-year-old passenger inside and then left the scene. Witnesses say the driver, a young Asian female with dark hair in her 20s and a passenger, both made facial expressions that they knew they had struck the other vehicle. The truck sustained negligible damage and the passenger in the truck was unharmed.

Burglars Pick Up a Set of Clubs

A set of golf clubs were reportedly stolen from an unsecured garage sometime overnight from a home on the 5400 block of 91st Avenue SE. The clubs were valued at approximately $1,000.

June 18

Busy Lot Foils Attempt to Call Police, Says Ticketed Driver

Police cited a local resident for hit-and-run and unsafe backing after her Lexus RX 400 struck another Lexus SUV in the parking lot of the Coffee and Drive Thru at 9:40 a.m. When asked about the incident, the 57-year-old woman reportedly said "she knew she struck the other vehicle, but it was busy so she left," according to the report.

Irritable Driver Crashes His Own Car

Waiting for another driver to pass through the intersection of SE 24th Street and 84th Avenue SE, a 55-year-old man driving a Toyota Camry grew impatient turned in front of the other car. The local man successfully cut off the other driver but then struck the curb on 84th Avenue SE, damaging his Toyota. Asked why he had cut the other driver off, the man said the other vehicle was "going too slow" through the intersection and the driver "glared at him". 

June 19

Laptop Swiped From Under Homeowner's Nose

The resident of a home on the 2000 block of Faben Drive reported a residential burglary had occurred while he was at home at 6:40 a.m. The victim reportedly heard a house door open and he went to investigate, then saw a vehicle leave his driveway at a high rate of speed. He reported his black Toshiba laptop computer was stolen and also mentioned that a cellphone may also be missing. 

Adult Calls For Adolescent Half His Age, Told to Hang Up

The father of a 13-year-old teenage girl reported his daughter began receiving many phone calls over the past several days from a 29-year-old resident who lived a few blocks away. The father said when he called the admirer at around 4:20 p.m. and told him not to call anymore, the man became hostile.
