Prowlers Steal $3,300 From Unlocked BMW at Ferncroft Home — Mercer Island Police Blotter

The following information from Oct. 26-30 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 55-year-old resident told Mercer Island Police on Monday, Oct. 29, that car prowlers had stolen a wallet filled with $3,300 in cash from the dashboard of his car sometime overnight.

The man told police that he returned to his residence on the 4500 block of Ferncroft Road and left his BMW 740 unlocked inside his home garage with the garage door open at around 3 p.m. on Sunday. He returned at 2 p.m. on Monday and realized the wallet had been stolen, and contacted police a short time later.

In addition to the cash, the resident reported four credit cards and his driver's license were also inside the wallet. No unauthorized charges had been made to the card at that time.

Woman Emails Father, Son in Violation of Court Order
A 50-year-old resident of a home on the 7400 block of 86th Ave. SE handed police of copies of electronic messages a 49-year-old Mercer Island woman had sent him and his son over the past two weeks, in violation of a restraining order.

Student Permit Driver Wipes Out Town Center Street Light in Accident
A 16-year-old resident driving west on SE 28th Street in a Ford Mustang was stopped at the intersection of with 80th Ave. SE and tried to turn southbound when he accidentally crashed into a street light at 5:18 p.m. The teenager accellerated too quickly into the turn and spun-out a complete 180-degrees as he crossed the lanes of the road. He was later cited for negligent driving and violating the terms of his driver's instruction permit.

Car Prowlers Smash Window, Take Laptop in Shorewood Heights
The resident of an apartment on the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive reported thieves had broken into her Toyota Camry sometime overnight while it was parked. Despite the car's smashed passenger window, police determined there were no signs of forced entry and were unable to check the car for fingerprints after the owner, a 69-year-old woman, had driven the car all day after the alleged crime.

East Seattle Argument Wakes Neighbors
Mercer Island Police responded to reports of an early-morning argument on the 2700 block of 61st Ave. SE at 3:05 a.m. The 46-year-old resident said her boyfriend had threatened to kill her, but left the home shortly before police arrived. Police later cited the 46-year-old man — a resident of a nearby home — for harassment.
