Roommate Calls Cops After Ex-Boyfriend Breaks into Apartment — MIPD Blotter

The following information from Jan. 2-14 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Mercer Island Police investigated a Jan. 2 report that a Shorewood Heights Apartments complex resident was being stalked by an ex-boyfriend.

The woman's roommate contacted police on Jan. 2 at 8:15 a.m. after the victim, 44, had left for work when she discovered him inside her own bedroom. The roommate told her by phone that she had not let him in and had possibly forgotten to lock the front door when she left. She told police the man had knocked on the apartment door earlier at 2:30 a.m. but was refused entry, and then tried to call her 14 times.

Both said they would obtain a restraining order against him.

Goods Likely Stolen From Front Porch
Residents of a home on the 7200 block of SE 24th Street reported several items stolen that they tried shipping to their home on Oct. 15, but never arrived. The goods included a livid Nexus night light for children, a Lego remote control cram and a special vehicle child restraint harness system.

Jan. 6

Lost Bicycle Turned In to MIPD
A bicycle was found sitting on a homeowner's property on the 5300 block of Lansdowne Lane. The resident turned in the bike to police after he spoke with his neighbors and couldn't find the owner.

Abandoned Audi Seized at Park on the Lid Tennis Courts
Police seized a 2003 green Audi Allroad that was apparently abandoned for more than 72 hours in the Park on the Lid parking lot near the tennis courts.

Jan. 8

Trespassers Arrested, Police Find 'Burglary Tools' Inside Their Car
Police arrested two men for trespassing at 1:18 a.m. after they were seen on a residential property on the 9800 block of Mercerwood Drive, peering into the windows of a home there. The officer spotted a Mercury Marquis registered to an off-Island address near Mercer Island High School and followed the car until it came to a stop. The officer later detained a 21-year-old Des Moines man and a 32-year-old Auburn man, and both carried a pair of gloves at the time of the arrest. Police identified several "burglar tools" commonly used in burglaries inside the car, including stocking caps, screwdrivers, baseball bats and other items. The car was impounded.

Car Prowlers Score $25,000 in Sporting Goods From SUV
A 39-year-old resident of a home on the 9000 block of SE 50th Street reported two of his vehicles were prowled overnight on Jan. 8 between 12:30-8 a.m. Police say multiple outdoors and sporting goods items with an estimated value of $25,000 were stolen from inside. Investigators found no sign of forced entry but could not determine if the doors were unlocked.

Purse Stolen Overnight By Prowlers on South-end
A Louis Vuitton-brand bag was stolen overnight from inside a Dodge Caravan parked outside a residence on the 7000 block of 80th Ave. SE. ID, a wallet, checkbook, credit cards and other valuables were lost in the theft, and police were unable to determine whether or not the vehicle was locked.

Wanted Fall City Man Arrested in Traffic Stop
Police arrested a 35-year-old Fall City man driving a black Ford Focus on the 7900 block of SE 28th Street after officers determined he was wanted on a warrant for registration violations in Kent. He was arrested, cited and transferred to Kent PD.

Jan. 9

Drunk Driver Arrested on West Mercer Way
A 44-year-old resident was driving a black Lexus RX300 northbound on West Mercer Way when she veered into oncoming traffic at 5:09 p.m. The woman appeared intoxicated after police pulled her over on the 2400 block and she refused to submit to a sobriety field test and a portable breathalyzer. She was arrested and taken to the MIPD, where her BAC was measured at .190/.191. She was later released to a sober adult.

Jan. 10

Mercerwood Home Struck by Daylight Burglars
The resident of a home on the 9700 block of SE 40th Street reported her home had been burglarized while she was away at work between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. The home was entered through an unsecured window and a collection of jewelry was stolen, including a pair of diamond earrings, a one-karat diamond necklace and two diamond rings. The screen covering the window was broken but otherwise no damage to the home was reported.

Jan. 11

Good Samaritan Turns Over Cash Found in Parking Lot
A Stroum Jewish Community Center member found an undisclosed amount of cash lying on the ground in the parking lot of the JCC and turned the money over to JCC staff on Jan. 10. No one claimed it and the money was turned over to police the next day.

East Seattle Home Burglarized
A homeowner of a residence on the 2700 block of West Mercer Way who had been away fro home for 1 1/2 days reported the side door to his home had been forced open while he was gone. Unknown suspects rummaged through an antique dresser, but nothing was reported stolen.

Jan. 13

Vandals Slash Tires, Phone Line Cut at Upper Luther Burbank Park Home
A 26-year-old resident of a home on the 8400 block of SE 34th Place near Upper Luther Burbank Park reported the tires on his Acura Legend were slashed and the phone line was cut while he was away on a trip from Dec. 17 - Jan. 13.

Jan. 14 

Woman Victim of $800 Cheicking Account Fraud
A 41-year-old Shorewood Heights apartment resident reported her Bank of America checking account had been fraudulently charged six times between Jan. 2-4, with losses estimated at $800. The account was closed.

Police Arrest Brother After Fight to Open Door
A heated argument between two brothers over opening a door to their home on Monday, Jan. 14 ended with one of them booked into the Issaquah Jail. A 24-year-old resident of a home on the 3600 block of West Mercer Way reportedly assaulted his 23-year-old brother by shoving him in the chest at 5:45 p.m. In response, the younger brother threw him to the ground, injuring the older brother's knee. A 53-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, also residents of the home, witnessed the fight and told police who shoved who first. Both brothers refused medical aid.
