Unlocked Door Leads to Burglary: Mercer Island Police Log

A woman reported that $3,000 worth of jewelry was taken from her home in the 4700 block of Fernridge Lane during the day Tuesday after her children left the back door unlocked.

An unlocked door may have led to a burglary in the 4700 block of Fernridge Lane , according to the Mercer Island Police Department press board.

A woman told Mercer Island Police jewelry was taken from her bedroom between 7:30 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. Tuesday. She told police that she believed that the burglar entered her home through the back door of the garage, which was left unlocked by her children. Loss: $3,000.

The information on this incident came from the Mercer Island Police Department press board. Other incidents on Mercer Island include:

  • A flagger for a construction project in the 2700 block of 76th Ave. SE reported that she left her backpack behind a pole Tuesday during her workday and it was missing by 2 p.m. She was carrying clothing in the backpack, including a raincoat, a coat, a sweater and a reflective work vest.
