An Interstate 90 freeway chase that reached speeds of up to 90 mph ended in Bellevue and resulted in the arrest of Renton man in connection with a burglary on Tuesday, the King County Sheriff's Office reported..
According to the King County Sheriff's Office, the 33-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, also from Renton, are accused of burglarizing an elderly couple's home in the 12800 block of 412th Ave S.E. in North Bend.
The North Bend couple also reported that .357 magnum handgun was stolen along with a checkbook and some other items.
The couple called their bank to report the theft of their checkbook, and around 1:30 p.m. while a sergeant spoke to the victims at their home, the bank called to report someone was trying to cash one of the stolen checks at the IGA Store located in the 7700 block of Center Blvd S.E., Snoqualmie, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
Snoqualimie Police responded to the bank and arrested the woman without incident after she attempted to cash a check stolen from the burglary.
Deputies at the scene were notified that the woman had a male accomplice in a vehicle and that he could be in possesion of the stolen handgun. A detective in an unmarked car then recognized the 33-year-old man in a nearby car. When deputies tried to stop the car, the suspect refused to stop and drove onto Interstate 90 around milepost 18, according to the Sheriff's Office video.
During the pursuit, Washington State Patrol deployed spike strips but the suspect was able to avoid them. Guardian 1 was also overhead which allowed pursuing deputies to back off in the interest of public safety, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect reached speeds of at least 90 mph and weaved through traffic and drove on the shoulder of Interstate 90. After getting onto North Interstate 405, the suspect pulled over to the right shoulder and gave up, the King County Sheriff's Office reported. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Both suspects were booked into the King County Jail for investigation of Theft of a Firearm, Burglary 1, Theft 2 and Forgery. The man was also booked for Investigation of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Eluding. The suspect vehicle was impounded and detectives will be continuing their investigation.
