Ballots for Aug. 16 Primary Mailed Today in King County

Ballots must be postmarked by on election day, Aug. 16, at the latest or returned to one of 11 drop boxes in King County.

King County Elections is mailing out ballots today to registered voters for the Tuesday, Aug. 16 primary.

The ballot features measures as well as contested offices where there are three or more candidates. On Mercer Island, , which includes Mercer Island, Bellevue and other Eastside communities. Local resident Richard Mitchell, former Bellevue City Council member Patsy Bonincontri and Port of Seattle Commissioner John Creighton will face current County Council member Jane Hague.

The five-term incumbent said she is running on a record of labor reform, adopting effective performance measures, preserving critical services, and blocking two new tax increases during her past term.

"We have been able to work together to accomplish a lot for the Eastside," she said. "As this election season progresses, I look forward to having a discussion with voters about how to make King County and the Greater Eastside a better place to live and do business."

The top two vote-getters in each race move on to the general election.

The county-wide $13.3 million Veterans and Human Services Levy is the only measure on the ballot for residents of Mercer Island. The average King County homeowner would pay $15 more a year in property tax to assist veterans and human services programs.

Voters can return their completed ballots as soon as they receive them in the mail. The deadline to postmark or drop off your ballot is August 16, Election Day.

There are 11 drop boxes in King County, available starting July 28, including one at the King County Administration Building at 500 4th Avenue in Seattle — the nearest location to Mercer Island. The deadline to use a drop box is 8 p.m. on Election Day, Aug. 16. 

Return your ballot as early as possible for it to be included in results reported on Election Night, and to allow more time for Elections to connect with you if there are any issues verifying your signature.

You can use the Ballot Tracker to see the progress of your ballot at three points:

  • Track point one: Your ballot packet was assembled and mailed to you.
  • Track point two: King County received your completed ballot.
  • Track point three: Your signature was verified and your ballot proceeded through the counting process.
