Calkins Landing, Luther Burbank Park Erosion Control Efforts Seek Public Input

Calkins Landing, Calkins Point at Luther Burbank and the South Shoreline at Luther Burbank Park have all suffered from accelerated erosion due to motorized boating on Lake Washington.

Ed. Note: This post is a news release from the city of Mercer Island.

The Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a public meeting to discuss designs for the upcoming Luther Burbank Park and Calkins Landing shoreline restoration projects.

The public meeting will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in Room 104 at the Mercer Island Community Center, 8236 SE 24th Street, Mercer Island. The community is encouraged to provide input on the design of three shoreline areas for improved access, wildlife habitat quality and site aesthetics.

The purpose of this meeting is to receive feedback from the community on the proposed designs of following shoreline areas: Calkins Landing, Calkins Point at Luther Burbank and the South Shoreline at Luther Burbank Park. Anchor QEA, the firm selected to develop these designs, will present a conceptual design for each shoreline area and touch on project objectives for the three areas, and will incorporate community input as they develop the final project designs. Anchor QEA designers and City staff will be available to answer questions pertaining to these projects.

Throughout the design process, written and electronic mail comments are welcomed. For more information, questions, or feedback about this project, please contact Alaine Sommargren, Parks Natural Resources Specialist, at alaine.sommargren@mercergov.org.
