City Issues MLK Day Snow Update

The city of Mercer Island's maintenance department is busy plowing and sanding main roads after about 2-3 inches of snow fell and more snow is in the forecast.

City snow plows and trucks have been busy since Sunday afternoon clearing Mercer Island's arterial streets, primary routes that access I-90, schools and the Town Center, according to a city press release.

The city is employing four trucks in the last 24 hours for round-the-clock plowing and sanding, which officials say will continue as necessary until the winter weather ends.

This includes arterials such as Island Crest Way, Gallagher Hill Road, East Mercer Way, West Mercer Way, North Mercer Way, Mercerwood Drive, SE 40th Street, SE 68th Street, 70th Ave SE, and 72nd Ave SE.

The press release also details that in addition to plowing and sanding, crews will also apply liquid de-icer to other arterials located on steep hills and major intersections (see PDFs of the city's updated snow & sanding routes map and where chemical de-icer will be applied attached to the right of this story).

Residents are encouraged to see the "Winter Roads " section on the home page of the City web site for more information about snow and ice removal priorities and winter driving tips.
