Community Center Rallies With 'Snowmen Picnic' Photo Contest

A call for a "Snowmen" contest via Facebook, as the Mercer Island Community & Events Center tries to encourage residents to get outdoors and enjoy the white stuff.

Due to heavy snow and concern for the safety of staff members and the community the Mercer Island Community & Event Center (MICEC) opened until at 10 a.m. and will close early at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and all recreation classes and organized activities are canceled.

However, that isn't stopping the city Parks and Recreation Department from having a little fun with the snow and are calling on residents to build snowmen at home, in a favorite park or by walking over the community center and then share photos of their snowmen with the Mercer Island Parks & Recreation Facebook page.

(Ed. Note: Mercer Island Patch also features a photo page where you can contribute photos of Winter fun and a Facebook page with the latest updates and news. Please "Like" us if you're enjoying what you see!)

Here's the details from a city press release:

It’s simple to participate!  If the weather allows you to walk outside safely into your front yard, to your favorite park or to the Community Center, simply build a fun family-friendly snowman to share with the rest of us!  What a great way to have fun with your neighbors and enjoy the great outdoors at the same time.  Then, go to the Mercer Island Parks & Recreation FaceBook page, select “like” and then share a picture of your snowman with us.  And remember, please walk – don’t drive! Stay safe!
