41st District Democrats Announce Aug 14 Candidates Forum to Replace Maxwell

Rep. Maxwell (D-Renton) resigned from her elected post July 9 to take a position in Gov. Jay Inslee's administration in Olympia.

Officials from the 41st District Democrats announced an Aug. 14 candidates forum in Issaquah to help party officials nominate a slate of candidates to replace former State Representative Marcie Maxwell (D-Renton).

Local precinct committee officers (PCOs) will gather at 7 p.m., Aug. 21 at Eastshore Unitarian Church in Bellevue to nominate three persons to fill the vacancy, which will ultimately be decided by the King County Council.

The King County Council will subsequently choose one of the three as the appointee or, in the event of Council deadlock, the Governor will do so.

But before any of that happens, local officials and the public will have an opportunity to hear the candidates speak. The candidate forum will be held August 14, 7-9 p.m. at the King County Library Service Center, 960 Newport Way NW, Issaquah WA.

Maxwell resigned her elected office July 9, accepting a position as Gov. Inslee's Senior Education Policy Adviser for K-12, early learning and higher education.

The appointee will serve the remainder of Maxwell's term through 2014, and candidates must seek election to the office in the 2014 General Election.
