Fall Recycling Event

Islanders can safely dispose of the old equipment and household items that are cluttering their basements or garages at the Mercer Island Fall Recycling Event on Saturday, October 22 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Mercer Island Boat Launch (3600 East Mercer Way). 

Accepted Items:

  • Alkaline batteries
  • Appliances/scrap metal ($5 for water heaters)
  • Cardboard (please flatten)
  • Confidential document shredding (limit 5 file-size boxes per participant)
  • Electronic/computer equipment (DVD players, VCRs, stereo equipment, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, cellular phones and computer peripherals such as keyboards and mice)
  • Household goods and clothing (items in good condition only)
  • Lead acid batteries
  • Motor oil, filters, and antifreeze
  • Porcelain toilets and sinks ($10 - cash only)
  • Propane tanks ($5 - cash only)
  • Refrigerators/freezers/air conditioners ($25 - cash only)
  • Tires (limit 6 tires per household)

  • Computer monitors and televisions (Visit the E-Cycle Washington website for more information.)
  • Construction/demolition debris
  • Garbage
  • Mattresses/furniture
  • Plastics
  • Plastic toys, hoses, etc.
  • Window glass  
  • Cleaning products
  • Fluorescent lights
  • Household chemicals
  • Paint (Note: new rules for latex paint disposal are in effect. Visit the King County website for more information on proper disposal.)
  • Pesticides/herbicides
  • Oil based paint/solvents
  • Solvents and thinners

Food Pantry Donations Accepted 

Residents are invited to support the Mercer Island Food Pantry with donations of non-perishable food or cash. City staff from the Youth and Family Services Department will be on-site at the recycling event accepting donations. Staff asks residents to check expiration dates on food before donating.
