Final Election Results Certified by King County

Mercer Island City Council welcomes newcomer Debbie Bertlin, while other city and county council incumbents went unchallenged.

The results are officially in — and Debbie Bertlin will be the only new member on the Mercer Island City Council come Jan. 1.

The King County Canvassing Board certified results from the Nov. 8 election early Tuesday morning, confirming early returns that showed easily defeating incumbent Deputy Mayor El Jahncke for the City Council, position 7 seat. Overall, election officials tallied about 60 percent of all ballots mailed out to Mercer Island voters in the all-mail election.

With 5,200 votes in the final tally, Bertlin maintained a 59-41 lead over Jahncke that she held on Election Day.

City council members , Mike Cero and Bruce Bassett — all of whom ran unopposed for re-election — maintained vote tallies close to 100 percent in the certified results.

Brahm, to replace (now serving in the State Senate), collected the highest number of votes in a local race with 6,258 votes. Brahm is a former editor of the .

In 's races, all three incumbent directors — President Pat Braman, appointee Brian Emanuels, and Janet Frohnmayer, also ran unopposed. Emanuels, a former Microsoft manager and local youth sports booster, was appointed unanimously in May after the school board deadlocked on two other candidates several weeks prior.

The Canvassing Board will release the full results of the Nov. 8 election at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1.
