Initiative to Ban I-90, I-405 Tolling Proposed

A Seattle group has proposed an initiative to ban tolling on interstates, which would include Interstate 90 and Interstate 405.

Voters might have the chance to decide whether they want tolling on Interstate 90 and Interstate 405, after a Seattle group filed the paperwork to start gathering signatures for an initiative that would ban tolling on interstates.

The group Democracy Workshop has filed a petition  has until July 5 to gather the signatures of at least 246,372 registered voters, according to the Washington Secretary of State's Office. The state recommends gathering at least 325,000 signatures.

The initiative would prohibit tolling of interstates, including the proposed tolling of Interstate 90 and the .

Democracy Workshop director Elizabeth Campbell told KING-5 News that the group believes the interstate systems should be free because "they are the spine economic and commerce that goes through our area."

The initiative does not have an assigned number yet. According to the state, initiative numbers are not assigned until the proposal has been reviewed by the state code reviser and the sponsor has submitted the final language of the proposed initiative. You can read the current proposed text of the Interstate Tolling Prohibition Act on the Washington Secretary of State's website.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
