Island Crest Way Resurfacing Scheduled to Start Next Week

Crews are scheduled to begin work on the Island Crest Way road surface on Aug. 6 and repave the road beginning the week of Aug. 13 after completing sidewalk replacement work.

on Island Crest Way continues the first week of August as road crews prepare to make sidewalk improvements and road improvements, according to a press release.

Construction teams are preparing to pour new concrete sidewalks, install ADA-compliant ramps on the east side of the road, and grade and repave the asphalt sidewalks along the west side. In addition, some widening work at Merrimount Drive is scheduled to be completed.

There continues to be a long work zone this week since the sidewalk work is spread out along the entire length of the project. Residents will continue to see traffic reduced to one lane in each direction during work hours.

Last week, with only a few areas needing additional "fill-in" work. Crews also removed asphalt sidewalk areas planned for replacement. An electrical subcontractor also successfully completed their conduit bore under ICW (avoiding the need to dig a trench across all four lanes) and the storm drainage subcontractor has now completed work on the project.

For the week of August 6, there will be surface grinding along the full width of the roadway in preparation for the asphalt overlay. Re-paving is currently set for the week of August 13; however specific days have yet to be scheduled.

For more information on the project, contact City Streets Engineer Clint Morris at clint.morris@mercergov.org or 206-275-7807.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.

The Jury is still out. I liked the "Old Patch". J
