A project to improve use of the docks and improve lake habitat and fish habitat and spawning areas will close Luther Burbank Beach for most of Tuesday, Aug. 28.
A permit to move an existing floating dock — used for run through during the summer months — was granted after the city pledged to remove seven pilings near the dock and along the south edge of Luther Burbank Beach.
The dock will then be moved to the south side of the pier, between the southward arm of the pier and the shoreline bulkhead, therefore protected from open water.
"It's a better location for that dock," said Parks Superintendent Jason Kintner. "The north side (of the pier where the dock is currently anchored) is pretty wind whipped and wave whipped."
The project is authorized from a fund of $110,000 spent annually on repairs, maintenance and minor improvements in Luther Burbank Park, funded by the 2008 local parks levy.
The beach will re-open at approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday after the pilings have been removed. The dock is scheduled to be relocated by Wednesday.
