WHAT IS THE MOST PRESSING ISSUE FACING VOTERS IN YOUR DISTRICT?
I think that education is important to 41st District voters, and families are very concerned about ensuring all students have the opportunity to have a good education, and that we amply fund education. Parents and communities like to ensure that all kids have an opportunity to get the best education in early learning, K-12 and higher education.
IF ELECTED, WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS IN OFFICE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE?
A priority issue right now is funding the education system. I’m on the legislative Task force on funding this (with State Sen. Steve Litzow). I will work to ensure that we follow through with education funding for our public schools.
DO YOU SUPPORT/OPPOSE REFERENDUM 74: SHOULD GAY MARRIAGE BE LEGAL IN WASHINGTON? BRIEFLY, WHY?
I do support R-74 and I did vote — co-sponsor and vote — for the legislation in the 2012 session. I think that it’s important for all loving couples to have the same rights and responsibilities that I had during my 3 decades of marriage.
DO YOU SUPPORT/OPPOSE, INITIATIVE 502 TO MAKE SMALL AMOUNTS OF MARIJUANA LEGAL TO PEOPLE 21 AND OLDER? BRIEFLY, WHY?
I’m not supporting that Initiative. I would rather see this matter worked through the legislature and the federal concerns worked out. I previously voted for the medical marijuana bill in 2011, but it was vetoed by the governer due to federal compliance concerns.
