Mercer Island Road Crews Start Paving Parkwood

The city of Mercer Island began its annual program of road construction last week and will soon begin tearing up roads in the Parkwood neighborhood.

Road crews are working to complete two significant projects: chip sealing and asphalt overlays for various arterial and residential streets on Mercer Island

The chip sealing work underway around the north end of the Island should be ready for a topcoat of asphalt this week; paint striping to follow. Residents should expect flaggers, alternating lane closures, and minor detours.

The second project involving asphalt overlays takes more time to complete, but should also launch this week. Crews will grind down existing road surfaces and put down two layers of hot mix asphalt. Work begins in the Parkwood neighborhood, and will involve detours and lane closures.
