Mercer Island to be Site of Postal Worker Rally Sept. 27

The American Postal Workers Union has called for rallies across the country to garner support for legislation that it says could ameliorate the US Postal Service's financial crisis.

Mercer Island will be the site of one of many rallies planned for tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 27, as part of the American Postal Workers Union's (APWU) efforts to call attention to its plight. The Mercer Island rally will be held at 2737 78th Avenue SE,  from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., near Rep. Dave Reichert's Mercer Island office.

A press release from the APWU says it, the National Association of Letter Carriers, the National Postal Mail Handlers Union and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association plan rallies in every congressional district in the country tomorrow to build support for legislation that would restore financial stability to the Postal Service.

At the rallies on Sept. 27, the APWU said in the release, the unions will be asking legislators to co-sponsor H.R. 1351, which was introduced by Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA).

Locals that haven’t already done so are being encouraged to notify the media about the rallies. More information is available on the Save America’s Postal Service’s Web site, which the unions developed to provide information about the events.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
