Islander Middle School Spelling Bee

Press Release – IMS Spelling Bee

It’s Bee Season again at Islander Middle School!  The annual All-IMS Spelling Bee will take place on January 27, 2011, at 3 pm in the IMS Library.   This exciting and popular event is the first round of bees that culminate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, held in Washington DC in June and televised on ESPN.

The All-IMS Spelling Bee is open to students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.  Contestants can qualify to compete through a classroom qualifying bee, or by participating in one of the Library Qualifying Rounds, held during student lunch periods on January 20, 21, and 24.

Last year, IMS Spelling Bee champion Kela Harrington also won the regional competition in Seattle, and competed well in the National Bee.  Now an eighth grader, she’ll be competing again at IMS for a chance to advance to the nationals.  Kela will face lively competition from her IMS schoolmates this year – will your super speller be among the contestants?
