Girls Lacrosse Trio to Represent Washington in U-19 National Tournament

Three members of Mercer Island High School's girls lacrosse team were recently selected to represent Washington state later this month in the U-19 US Lacrosse Women’s Division National Tournament in Stony Brook, New York.

Tyler Sherper, Dulce Moll and Madison Blackburn join 19 other high school girls from Washington state, selected by the Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association, to compete in the tournament May 25 and 27 at Stony Brook University in New York. The national tournament is one of the oldest lacrosse tournaments in the U.S.

Nine student-athletes were selected from Eastside schools, including Interlake High School, Issaquah High School, Skyline High School, Bothell High School, Woodinville High School, the Eastside Catholic School, and Mercer Island High School. Three students were also selected from Seattle schools, four from Everett schools and four players from from Bainbridge High School and two from Auburn Riverside High School were also named to the state U-19 team.

The student-athletes were selected from a state-wide tryout held, April 22 at the Lakeside School in Seattle.

Established in 1933, the Women’s Division National Tournament is one of the oldest lacrosse tournaments in the US.  The local standouts will compete among 60 teams from across the US in the schoolgirl’s division for high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors. 

The state team will be coached by Tony D’Alessio, head coach of the Lake Sammamish girls varsity program and assisted by Katie Carroll, head coach of the Snohomish girls varsity program.
