JV Boys Hoops Knocks Off O'Dea as Season Ends

The Mercer Island High School JV Basketball Team ends the season on a high note with a win over non-conference rivals O'Dea.

They won't go to state, but the Mercer Island JV squad wrapped up an impressive 18-3 record this season, including victories in two non-conference games last weekend against Seattle Prep and O'Dea.

The games were rescheduled due to snow and freezing rain last month.

In a 70-65 win over O'Dea, the Islanders had never led in regulation, and was down by 9 with 3 minutes to go, but gained momentum after an O'Dea player was ejected from the game for shoving Islander Jake Shaddle to the floor in an emotionally charged game.

In the dying seconds of the game, Shaddle hit a 3-point shot about seven feet behind the arc to take the game to overtime.

Mercer Island held on to win in overtime, defeating O'Dea twice this season in the non-league rivalry.
