Local TV Puts Islanders in Running for 'Game of the Week'

Seattle-area TV stations KING 5 and Q13 Fox both nominated Mercer Island's Sept. 16 match-up with Juanita High School for extended coverage as their "Game of the Week".

Local TV stations have put 's first home game of the season Sept. 16 against Juanita High School at up for a vote along with other key games for each station's "Game of the Week" extended coverage. 

The Mercer Island vs. Juanita game has been nominated both for King 5 TV’s Big Game of the week and Q13 Fox’s Varsity on Q Game of the Week. The Mercer Island Football Boosters Club is encouraging fans from all around the Island to pass the word and vote for the game before the votes are counted.

According to the results posted so far as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, KING 5 has counted the most votes for Mercer Island's game (1313), with the Capital v. Lakes game a close second with 1,081 votes. Over on Q 13 Fox, Mercer Island has only received 67 votes so far and is currently 4th.  

KING 5 closes their poll at 1 p.m. Thursday at www.king5.com/sports and Q13 Fox closes their poll at 8 p.m. Thursday at www.q13fox.com/sports.

KING 5's Big Game of the Week nominees:

  • Juanita vs. Mercer Island
  • Lindbergh vs. Renton
  • Capital vs. Lakes
  • West Seattle vs. O'Dea
  • Archbishop Murphy vs. Cedarcrest

 

Q13 Fox's Varsity on Q Game of the Week nominees:

  • Central Kitsap at Shelton
  • Morton/White Pass at Napavine
  • Archbishop Murphy at Cedarcrest
  • Juanita at Mercer Island
  • Monroe at Kamiak 
  • Lynden at Blaine

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.

The Jury is still out. I liked the "Old Patch". J
