Mercer Island girls dispatch Holy names, advances to state lax quarterfinals

Team advances to state quarterfinals with win.

Mercer Island advanced to the Washington Girl's Lacrosse State Championship quarterfinals with an 18 - 6 opening round playoff win over Holy Names, Tuesday at Islander Stadium on Mercer Island. 

The #5 Islanders now 10-2-1 (9-2-1 in regular season play) take on #4 Issaquah, which won its opening round game against #13 Klahowya, in a quarterfinal matchup on Friday.  The location and time will be determined later on Wednesday. 

MI took control of the #12 Cougars from the beginning as the Islanders were led by Elena Skouras with five goals and Tyler Sherper and Dulce Moll who each tallied four.

For Holy Names, Wendy Donier led the Cougars in scoring with four goals and grabbed six ground balls.  Katie Arthofer had 11 saves in goal. 

Holy Names concludes their season with a 6-8-0 record (6-7-0) in regular season play.
