Mercer Island High Graduates 351 Seniors

The 55th Commencement Exercises of Mercer Island High School graduated the Class of 2012 Thursday night at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle.

Mercer Island High School celebrated its 55th Commencement Exercises at 7 p.m. Thursday night at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle.

Thousands of family members in the audience were welcomed by MIHS Interim Principal Pat Blix, who officially pronounced the graduation of the Class of 2012's 351 seniors.

MIHS Physics teacher Aaron Noble offered a thoughtful speech/meditation on the Italian word "Cioè", while class speaker Alexander LaVallee offered wisdom from Spiderman and Battlestar Galactica.

The Class of 2012 honored four students as valedictorians: Ashley Bobman, Samyukta Lanka, Andrea Lin and Elizabeth Orem. Annelise Giseburt and Anna Partridge were recognized as the class salutatorians.

"Never forget the friends who are sitting with you in this room," said Lin. "We wish you the best and wish you success in your future endeavors. Congratulations to the class of 2012."
