Mercer Island High School Knowledge Bowl Team Places 3rd in State 3A Competition

The first-ever Mercer Island High School Knowledge Bowl team placed third in the school's first ever run at the state competition, according to the school district.

Six Mercer Island High School students placed third in the school's first ever run at the state Knowledge Bowl competition, according to the school district.

Participating Islander students were Nathan Cummings, and Devina Kumar, founders and co-captains; Isaac Grosof, team speaker; Elizabeth Belitto, Kela Harrington and Mary Wingerson.

According to coach and MIHS teacher Lois Sargent, the team defeated Mountain View High School in the semi-final round after a ten question tie-breaker. However, Mercer Island could not pull ahead in front of Academy and Lakeside high schools. Mercer Island ended with a 3A schools third place rank, which Sargent said was better than expected for the school's first state competition.
