Mercer Island Schools Win State Education Honors

Two schools within the Mercer Island School District were honored.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has announced that two elementary schools in Mercer Island have received Achievement Awards—the state’s highest honor—for 2012, according to a news release.

The winners in the Mercer Island School District are:

  • Island Park Elementary: Overall Excellence, Math, Science
  • Lakeridge Elementary: Overall Excellence, Science

All award-winning schools were honored during a ceremony on April 30 at Kentwood High School in Covington.

Schools are recognized as top performers in seven categories: Overall Excellence, Language Arts, Math, Science, Extended Graduation Rate, Closing Achievement Gaps and High Progress (Title I schools only). Some schools are honored in more than one of these categories.

Schools are selected for awards based on their statewide assessment data for the three previous years. This data is analyzed using the Achievement Index and methodology approved by both OSPI and the SBE. For more information, visit the Washington Achievement Awards section of the OSPI website.
