MI Girls Lacrosse Allows Last-Minute Bainbridge Goal for Draw

Defending state champion Bainbridge roared back from a 5-goal deficit with less than 10 minutes to play.

Bainbridge High’s Theo Fehsenfeld scooped up a ground ball and fired a shot past goaltender Erika Egan with just 19 seconds remaining to salvage a 15 – 15 tie with the Islanders in girls high school lacrosse action, Monday at Mercer Island High School.

The tie came after Spartan midfielder Bea Sheffer’s free position goal with 9:56 remaining ignited a five-goal Bainbridge run to knot the game at 15 apiece.
Bainbridge, the 2011 girls state champion now sitting in last place in the Peninsula Conference, and played to a tightly contested 7 – 7 draw in the first before the Islanders moved out to  a 15 – 10 advantage with under 10 minutes remaining in the game.

Sheffer along wih Kelsey Mackin finished the game with four goals apiece for the Spartans.  Mercer Island’s Tyler Sherper, Dulce Moll and Elena Skouras all had four goals, while the Islanders goalkeeper Erika Eagan had 10 saves.

Bainbridge (0-1-1) next faces Bellevue East (1-1-0) Wednesday, March 21, in a 7:45 p.m. start at Bainbridge Stadium.  Mercer Island (2-0-1) next faces Lake Sammamish (1-1-0) Tuesday, March 27, in a 6 p.m. start at Redmond’s Marymoor Park.
