The Mercer Island wrestling team defeated the Interlake Saints on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in Bellevue, by a team score of 52-17. The Islanders are now 6-0 in the 3A KingCo confernence, and have virtually tied up the regular season league team title.
"Since we beat Mt. Si, they can finish no better than 6-1, and we also own the head-to-head, so I think there's a KingCo tiebreaker criterion that favor us in that instance. I guess that's the long-winded way of saying that it's almost all sewn up," said MIHS Wrestling coach Creighton Laughary. "However, KingCo awards both a team dual title and a tournament title, and our team has set as goals to win both titles. So, we still have some work to do."
The Islanders had to wait over a month to face Interlake after a Dec. 18 meet was canceled, due to the school's Winter Concert.
