This gallery show represents 29 Mercer Island High School students completing the rigorous AP Studio Art program under the tutelage of their teachers Robb Wick (3D/Drawing and Painting) and Rose Gifford (2D/Photography). The AP Student Art Show is on display from April 23 through June 1.

Mercer Island High School offers Advanced Placement (AP) in Studio Art for highly motivated students who are seriously interested in the study of art. AP is a rigorous program that culminates with students submitting their artwork for college-level assessments developed and scored by college and university faculty members as well as experienced AP teachers. Students applying for AP credit submit portfolios at the end of the school year.

The AP Studio Art curriculum focuses on: (1) a sense of quality in a student’s work; (2) the student’s concentration on a particular visual interest or problem; and (3) the student artist’s breadth of experience in the formal, technical and expressive means.

As students develop their portfolios for the College Board, they are required to submit twenty-four original and complete works of art: 12 in their area of concentration and 12 pieces that demonstrate breadth. Students applying for AP evaluations and credit will submit the 24 works of art digitally and also send four actual artworks that illustrate their best quality and techniques.
