VIEWFINDER: It's a Beautiful Day... For Marching Band Practice!

Mercer Island Marching Band Directors Parker Bixby and Ryan Lane spent the past week with about 200 Mercer Island High School band members, getting ready for the coming school year.

Directors Parker Bixby and Ryan Lane have had all week ending Aug. 19 with the 200-odd member marching band for a mini-band camp at .

Along with help from several band alumni and drill coaches Kyle Thompson and Kary Etherington, the band is practicing their "basics block" of footwork and synchronization drills as part of their preparation for their participation Jan. 1 in the 2012 in Pasadena, California.

"We're here to help out, teaching drill, posture and basically more eyes to help the kids be where they should," said MIHS band alum Ila Gaponoff, who graduated from Bosie State this fall.
