City Lifeguards Wrap-up Summer Duties Next Sunday
Mercer Island lifeguards will end their season on Sept. 2 at Mercer Island's only guarded beach at Luther Burbank Park.
Around this time next week on Sunday, Sept. 2, will be wrapping up their lifesaving duties this summer at .
Mercer Island once staffed lifeguards at all three local beaches, including and , but those positions were eliminated — along with the city's own swimming beach water quality monitoring program — with cuts to the city budget in 2008 and 2010. A lifeguard staffing shortage also ended the beach season a week early last year.
Lifeguards will be on duty through Sunday, Sept. 2 until 6 p.m. For more information, contact the at 275-7609.
