Girls Second, Boys Third in X-Country KingCo 3A/2A Championships

Both teams qualified and move on to the SeaKing District competition next Thursday, Oct. 25 at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle.

Mercer Island High School competed in the Kingco 2A/3A Championships on Thursday at Lake Sammamish State Park.

The boys finished in third place behind League champion Bellevue, with Interlake in second place. The boys were led Juniors Daniel Mayer and Eric Schulz who placed 4th and 5th place individually. Both earned All-League honors with their performance.

They were followed by Matt Woptika (8), Nathan Cummings (32), Dylan Lesko (34), Nathan Gallatin (36) and Kyle Weiss (50).

In the girls division, the Islanders placed second behind Liberty.

They were led by Junior Alida Scalzo, who captured 5th place and was awarded All-League honors. Alida was followed by Alexa Bauman (12), Linden Elggren (16), Sarah Bjarnason (19), Rachel Van Gelder (20:53), Cecelia Rosenman (22) and Ella Green (38).
