'Island Studs' Lax Girls Squad, MI Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team Earn Honors in Summer Tourneys

The Mercer Island Boys Lacrosse Team wins the Summer Sizzle Tournament in Covington and several girls lacrosse players — tapped for regional select team honors — won their division of the "Chumash"-style lacrosse Sammamish Shoot Out tournament

Mercer Island girls lacrosse players Sally Carroll, Katie Harris and Hannah Paborsky, along with Bainbridge Island’s Paige Brigham and Sonia Olson, took the Girls Seniors 7/8 title at the Sammamish Shoot-Out on Saturday, July 2. 

They played 5 games of 3-on-3 lacrosse and were undefeated in their climb to the top, winning the championship game 10-0. The style of lacrosse, called "Chumash", is a high-tempo game with a narrow goal and no goalies. All members of the team, aka “Island Studs,” play on the U15 Regional Team that is going to the National Girls Lacrosse Tournament in Florida July 17 - 22.

On the boys side, the Mercer Island Varsity Lacrosse team defeated Bellevue June 25 for , 7-4, in the championship game of the Tahoma Summer Sizzle tournament. 

The Islanders beat Lake Tapps 10-4 and Issaquah 10-7 before meeting the Wolverines in the final game. Mercer Island , 5-3.

This is the second year in a row the Islanders have won the championship in this tournament. Other teams in the tournament were Northshore, Tacoma and Tahoma.
