Mercer Island 9/10 Little League All Stars Win District 9 Title
The team of 9 and 10-year-olds defeated Bellevue Thunderbird Little League twice to win the District 9 title.
The Mercer Island 9- and 10-year-old All Star Little League Team came back through the losers bracket to defeat Bellevue Thunderbird twice, 8-3 and 6-4 to win the District 9 title and advance to the state tournament.
Nathan Buchan and Evan Dickstein were the winning pitchers in the two victories on July 2 and 3 at Big Finn Hill Park in Kirkland. Bellevue Thunderbird had beaten the team in the opening rounds of the tournament, 8-3, on June 27.
The team moves on to the state tournament starting July 13th in Oak Harbor at Windjammer Park.
In other Mercer Island Little League All-Star action, the 10/11 (Junior) All Stars face Bellevue West tonight in the district quarterfinal, 6 p.m. at East Sammamish Park in Sammamish. they defeated Eastlake, 3-2, with Lucas Varney finishing the game on the mound for the Islanders. Jack Dickenson went 2 for 3, and hit a double, while Julian Sanders hit a home run and also went 2 for 3.
The 11/12 (Majors) All Stars face Eastlake at noon Sat., July 9 at Dodd Field in Issaquah. They beat the home team Issaquah All Stars, 11-7 on July 3 to reach the semi-final bracket.
