Mercer Island Dominates Inglemoor 77-46

The Islander D smothered Inglemoor as junior guard Kaleb Werner lights up the Vikings for 30 points, and at one point went on an 11-shot shooting streak.

Mercer Island opened the season with a dominating win, 77-46 over Inglemoor.

Junior guard Kaleb Werner scored a career best 30 points in the game, mostly in the third quarter. That was after the Islander defense had basically shut down Inglemoor in the second quarter, forcing 8 turnovers and grabbing 14 boards to Vikings’ 7 and outscoring them 18-5. The Islanders also racked up 20 assists on the night and outrebounded Inglemoor 30-18

“We played team basketball tonight," said Mercer Island head coach Gavin Cree.  "I was impressed with our level of focus throughout the game. Everyone on this team is willing to make the extra pass to their teammates. It's going to be a fun group to watch"

Werner scored 16 straight points in the third quarter and at one point connected on 11 shots in a row and was 4-5 from the three point line and 9-11 from two.

The Islanders also enjoyed 51 percent shooting from the field, including 50 percent from 3-point line (11-22), 36-22 rebounding advantage and forced 22 turnovers.

"It's impossible to lose with those stats," said Cree

The season's first KingCo 3A league game at Sammamish on Friday, Dec. 7 at 8pm, then the Islanders pay a visit Saturday night to 4A #4-ranked Bellarmine Prep of Tacoma. Tip-off at 7pm.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
