"While I would have liked to see more 1st and 2nd places in the tournament for our teams, it was a good showing," said Chris Blakeslee, Co-President in charge of the select program.
The MIGB has been practicing for one month since being reorganized using a new system designed by Jasen Baskett and Jamie Prescott, MIHS Girls Basketball Head Coach.
"Many of the teams we played have been practicing together since last spring," continued Blakeslee. "We have a lot of upside."
"I had the pleasure of watching every team play and it was a lot of fun to see the excitement from the girls on the start of the season," added Christa Lily, VP of the Mercer Island Girl's Booster Club. "The girls have learned a lot in just one short month of practices so for the teams to do this well, it points to another banner year for all our MIGB teams."
There are 53 girls currently participating in the Mercer Island girls select basketball program. MIGB select, which added a 4th grade team this year, participates in the Puget Sound Travel League (PSTL) which runs from early December through mid-March.
The select program currently plans on entering teams in the upcoming Newport Cold Turkey Tournament November 25-27th.
